Haitian Senator Guy Phillippe, 49, was sentenced today to nine years in prison in Miami for accepting bribes to protect cocaine smugglers who smuggle ship drugs to the United States. Reporter James Pierre had a talk with Phillippe’s lawyer and they discussed all of what’s included in the plea deal for Guy Phillipe. His plea agreement allowed him to avoid going to trial in May on a more serious trafficking charge that could have sent him to prison for the rest for his life.
