Peanut producers in Haiti have united to block the delivery of a 500-tonne shipment of nuts from the US. They say the shipment threatens to undermine the livelihood of thousands of people in the country. According to the World Bank, extreme poverty in the country has fallen from 31 to 24 percent over the last decade but remains the poorest country in the Americas and one of the poorest in the world (with a GDP per capita of $846 in 2014).
