July 8, 2016: Police in Dallas has identified the man who fatally shot 5 and wounded 7 police officers as Micah X. Johnson, 25, an Army veteran. According to police, Johnson targeted white officers to avenge the two police-involved shootings of black men.

Police Chief for Dallas police department says ”The suspect said he was upset at white people. The suspect stated he wanted to kill white people, especially white officers,” during a news conference. “The suspect said he was upset about Black Lives Matter. He said he was upset about the recent police shootings.” The sniper died early Friday after a failed negotiations that lasted for hours. Police ended up deploying a robot to blow an explosive device in the parking garage where Johnson was positioned to carry out his attack.

Johnson served in the Army from March 2009 to April 2015 as a carpentry and masonry specialist, according to his military records.
